Park Bench
Lulu tells Luke that she’s lived her whole life without anyone telling her about the rape. She knows he doesn’t want to tell her now and she honestly doesn’t want to hear it. Luke tells her that he understands but she has to hear it because it happened and it can’t be undone. She has to know about it or else she’ll be vulnerable to lies and distortion by people like Scotty. He says he was wrong not to tell her about it before. He starts by telling her that Laura was younger than Lulu is now, still in school. He then proceeds to tell her about The Rape™. “She was saying no, but I couldn’t hear her.” Luke asks if Lulu wants him to go on. Lulu says he might as well. Luke says that they found Laura in the park the next day and she made up a story of an attacker. Lulu is surprised that Laura didn’t name him as the attacker. Luke says that Laura wanted to act like it didn’t happen so that’s what they all did. She made it possible for them to make a life together and Scotty can’t accept that. Laura and he got beyond the nightmare. Lulu asks if Luke told Lucky. Luke says that Lucky found out the same way she did, by someone wanting to hurt their family. Luke continues. There are no circumstances that excuse that night. He committed an act of violence against an innocent person and he’ll spend the rest of his life making up for it. Lulu starts to leave but Luke stops her. Laura refused to live life as an abused woman. She forgave Luke and it was the strength of that forgiveness that gave them the life that they had together, that gave them their kids. As horrifying as it was, it was the least of their life together. Scotty wants to make it the most. Lulu struggles to maintain her composure. She opens her mouth a couple of times to say something but can’t. Finally, she tells Luke that she’s glad Laura could forgive him. She walks off. wow. Tony and Julie rocked those scenes. seriously.
Another Park Bench
Carly tells Jerry 2.0 that he’s standing there breathing air because he sold out a woman who believed he loved her. Jerry 2.0 says that he did love Irina as much as he could and that Carly’s missing the point. Carly tells him to clear it up for her then. Jerry 2.0 says that love is disposable, survival isn’t. Carly snarkily calls that poetic and wonders if the story is even true. Jerry 2.0 says it is. When he betrayed Irina and watched her die, something inside him snapped. He realized what he would to do stay alive. He finds it liberating not to give a damn about anything. Carly says it explains how twisted he is now, how he gets such pleasure in seeing other people’s pain. Jerry 2.0 disagrees. He doesn’t enjoy watching people suffer or even get violent, but he pushes the enveloped to see what he can get away with. Carly figures that’s why he’s settling down in Port Charles. He’s trying to prove he’s not who he is, which is a coward. It was easy for him to betray Irina, watch her die and walk away. It stripped away any self-illusions he had. Jerry 2.0 says he’s not a coward, he’s a realist. He points out that they’re very much alike. She hates him but if she gets rid of him, she’ll lose everything she loves. He leaves.

Sam says that they can’t adopt, not with their backgrounds. Jason asks where she’s going with this. Sam says that she’s out of the baby making business, but he’s not. They could use a surrogate. Jason says he can’t. Sam asks him what he would say if she told him that despite her new career, they wouldn’t work as a couple unless they are parents? Jason says it’s not fair to a child to make it responsible for the happiness of its parents. Sam says Jason’s being unfair. They’re relationship took root around her last pregnancy and now he’s refusing to give that to her. Jason stresses that he can’t give that to her and in fact, he caused it to be taken away. Sam says that she doesn’t blame him for that. It’s all the stuff since then that she’s upset about. And now he’s refusing to share his child with her. She can’t believe it took her this long to see how selfish he is. She leaves.

Spinelli comes in to the office, saying that Milo told him that Sonny wanted to see him. Sonny tells him to come in. Spinelli sits down. Sonny asks if Spinelli wants to know why he called him here. Spinelli does but says there’s no rush. Sonny asks if Spienlli is scared of him. Spinelli says yes and asks “isn’t everyone?” Sonny says that a good point. he asks if Spinelli’s hungry and offers to send Milo on a wild goose chase for donuts. Spinelli shakily ha-ha’s and asks for a rain check. Sonny offers a drink instead. Spinelli says he’d love an orange soda with a sprig of mint. Sonny pours out a tumbler of Scotch instead. Spinelli says he’s not much of an alcohol drinker. Sonny tells him he’s got to start somewhere. Spinelli takes the class. Sonny sits at his desk. Spinelli starts to take a drink. Sonny wants Spinelli to tell him Jason’s secret. Spinelli does a spit take. Sonny says that Jason doesn’t just work for him, he’s Sonny’s best friend and Spinelli’s standing in the way of that friendship. Spinelli says there’s nothing Sonny can do for Jason. It’s a complicated situation. Like a Greek tragedy, much like the myth of Apollo. Sonny grabs Spinelli’s ear and says he isn’t sure if Spinelli’s trying to deflect him or if he’s being the freak he always is, but it’s not helping Sonny. Sonny gives him 60 seconds to learn English and tell him what he knows or else he’ll spill Spinelli’s guts for him. Spinelli says it would be his preference to tell Sonny everything but they are de facto friends and he can’t. Sonny tells him to prove the friendship by telling him. Spinelli rambles on some more about Apollo and Zeus. Sonny gets angry and yells at Spinelli to tell him what’s going on with Jason. Jason walks in at that time. Spinelli looks very relieved. Jason asks Sonny why he’s questioning Spinelli.
Another Park Bench
Carly is sitting on the bench when Lulu comes out from the path. She sees Carly and starts to walk away but Carly stops her and asks what’s wrong. Lulu says that she just wants to be alone. Carly makes her sit on the bench and talk to her. Lulu says it’s just more proof that love is an open invitation for someone to hurt you. Carly doesn’t understand why Lulu would feel that way until she remembers that today was the hearing. Lulu can’t believe that so many people knew the truth. Carly says there was no reason to tell her. Lulu says that it affects her life. Carly says it doesn’t because it happened before she was born. Lulu doesn’t understand how Laura could forgive such a violation. She thinks that Laura had to justify The Rape™ to be okay with Luke. Carly tells her that it’s not on her to judge Laura for her choice. Love is tricky but what happens between a man and wife is on them to determine what’s forgivable, not their children. Lulu gets up to leave and Carly asks where she’s going. Lulu says she’s going to make calls to the 3ooges to tell them she’s not going to fall in love. Carly says that while love might make you vulnerable, it also makes you better. Lulu says it’s a crap shoot. You can love a man and he can hurt you. Carly says she won’t make excuses for Luke, but Laura’s life isn’t Lulu’s life and Lulu can’t arm herself because she thinks the same thing will happen to her. Lulu needs to sit and think about this for a while and then she can let go and let herself love. Spencer’s never give up.

Luke comes looking for Lucky. Elizabeth says that he’s out looking for Lulu. Luke thinks that’s a good idea since Lucky can help her figure out her emotions. Elizabeth asks how Lulu took the news. Luke says he couldn’t tell. He realizes that she’s an adult so he can’t control her. He’ll let her come to a resolution about this and he’ll accept how she feels. Elizabeth offers Luke something to drink. Luke declines. He asks if he was wrong not to tell Lulu sooner. Elizabeth says no. Part of being a parent is knowing what your children can handle and making choices for them. Making choices for what’s best for them and keeping other things hidden. She believes that Lulu would’ve been better off never knowing and thinks Luke did Lulu a service by keeping the truth from her as long as he did. Luke thanks her.
Everyday Heroes Set
Amelia prattles on about some new story ideas while Sam cries. Sam says she can’t think about work right now because she and Jason just had a fight. Amelia asks if Sam confronted Jason about Jake. Sam says she didn’t come right out and say it but Jason knew what she was talking about and he refused to let her be in his life with Jake. Right. Because guys are really good at picking up subtle hints. I know that’s a horribly stereotypical generalization but whatever. Amelia says she wont’ talk Sam into staying in a relationship with Jason. Sam loves Jason. Amelia is trying to give Sam an objective opinion and thinks that she’s confusing love with co-dependency. Sam gets offended by that and says that what she has with Jason is real. If it weren’t for his having a baby with another woman, they’d be just fine. Oh lord. I can’t even comment on how stupid that sounded.
Not Starbucks – Office
Spinelli tells Jason that he and Sonny were having a drink to cement their bond. Jason asks since when does he have a bond with Sonny. Spinelli says “since forever.” He says that he’s exhausted by the effort though and needs a nap. Jason sends him home. Spinelli leaves. Jason asks Sonny what he walked in on. Sonny says that he can tell something’s off with Jason and just wanted to know what since Jason feels like he can’t trust him. Jason says it’s nothing Sonny can fix. Sonny says maybe not but he can listen. Jason says he and Sam are going through some baby stuff and it’s a mess. He tells Sonny he’ll catch up with him later. He leaves. A few minutes later (read: after the commercial break) Carly knocks and comes in. Sonny jokes that he’s never heard her knock on the door before. Carly says she’s there to discuss The Boys’ Schedule. Sonny asks what else she’s there for. Carly says she’s got a lot to process. Sonny agrees that it’s not every day you find out the terrorist that held you hostage is your brother-in-law. Carly knows that Sonny wants him dead and it’s going against his nature to keep him alive. Sonny says that it would hurt her so he’s keeping Jerry 2.0 alive for now.

Lulu comes in. Elizabeth tells her that Lucky is out looking for her and she just missed Luke. Lulu is glad no one’s there so that she can apologize to Elizabeth. She apologizes for not listening to Elizabeth when she tried to keep her from going to the courthouse but mostly for judging Elizabeth. Elizabeth says the apology is accepted but not necessary. Lulu says it is because when Lucky found out about the rape, Elizabeth was probably the one who helped keep Lucky grounded. Elizabeth says it was actually the other way around. She was raped when she was 15 and because of what happened to her, Lucky found out about Luke and Laura. It took a long time but the healing began. It hurts because you want the people you love to be perfect but they’re not. That’s where forgiveness comes in. When Lulu is ready, she can forgive and begin to heal. Lucky comes in and sees Lulu. He says he was worried about her. Lulu is okay. She knows everything. Lucky: “And?” Lulu: “Dad’s no hero, big deal.” Lucky tells her that when she’s ready, he’ll be there to talk to her about it, if she wants. Lulu says it would help for now if no one wanted to talk to her about it. She walks outside. Elizabeth says it’s crazy how one night decades ago still has the power to hurt. She reassures Lucky that his family will pick itself up and keep going.

Jason comes in and sees Spinelli sleeping on the couch. Jason slams the door and Spinelli wakes up. Spinelli apologizes profusely and assures Jason that he didn’t tell Sonny anything. Jason knows. Spinelli says that the problem is that as much as he’d love to keep the secret, Sonny has ways to make people talk and they involve pain. Jason tells Spinelli not to worry. He told Sonny that he and Sam were having problems. Spinelli thinks that Jason should tell Sonny. Jason doesn’t want to because Sonny would tell him to fight for custody and Jason doesn’t want that. He tells Spinelli that this isn’t important. Lulu was here earlier and some stuff happened and she’s really upset. Spinelli is out the door before Jason even finishes his sentence.
McHotel – Lobby
Scotty sees Luke and wonders if this is the point in which Luke snaps and guns him down in front of a bunch of witnesses. Luke says that, as much as he’d love to make Scotty’s dreams come true, he’s going to thank Scotty instead. Scotty hoped that the truth would hurt his family but instead, it served to free them because now they can’t ever be ambushed by the news again. He leaves.
Spencer House – Porch
Spinelli tells Lulu that Jason told him she needed help. Lulu says yeah but she’s not ready to talk about it and isn’t sure she’ll ever be ready. She sits on the steps. Spinelli sits down next to her and tells her that it’s cool. Just know that her friend for life is ready and willing to help whenever she needs. Lulu smiles and tells him that it helps to hear that. She leans on him and puts her head on his shoulder.

Jason’s sitting in the chair when Sam comes in. She sits on the coffee table in front of him and tells him she would’ve come home with candy or flowers by way of an apology but he doesn’t like candy or flowers. Jason tells her she has every right to be angry. Sam says she is angry but not at him. She’s angry at life and fate and her own bad choices. She’s devastated that she can’t ever be the mother of his children but she’s not going to let that ruin what they have. She’ll never give up on them. Jason won’t either. She crawls into his lap and they cuddle.

Carly says that of all the things she thought she’d be thanking Sonny for, it wouldn’t be for sparing the life of James Craig. She hates him but he’s Jax’s brother. Sonny says he meant what he said at the wedding. He wants her and Jax to be happy. She can still come to him, even if it’s just to talk. Carly says that she wished him happiness too and it came from the heart. Sonny knows.
